Isle of Man

Isle of Man

Based at the RUTLAND HOTEL

5 DAYS FROM £438

Situated in the Irish Sea, all four home countries can be seen on a clear day from the Isle of Man. An island of contrast – charming villages and bustling towns, craggy mountains to sweeping dales, old crafts and horse drawn trams are all to be discovered. The Gulf stream ensures the island enjoys an exceptionally mild climate.

For 2019 we return once again to the very comfortable RUTLAND HOTEL, ideally situated on the exclusive Queens Promenade with many rooms offering panoramic views over Douglas Bay. The Rutland features a restaurant serving a locally sourced Manx style menu and the bar is available for drinks and light snacks throughout the day. All of the uniquely styled bedrooms feature tv, telephone and hospitality tray. Please note there are 9 steps up to the hotel entrance and whilst a passenger lift serves all floors there are some steps along bedroom corridors. Unfortunately no ground floor rooms are available.

Tuesday 25th June
Departing Newark early morning, we utilise the motorway system to travel direct to Heysham where we board our lunchtime/early afternoon sailing to the Isle of Man.

Wednesday 26th – Friday 28th June
Scheduled excursions during our stay will include the following:
• Full day tour calling at Port Erin, with its beautiful sandy beach set in an enclosed harbour, then via the Calf of Man to the village of Cregneash - one of the last strongholds of the Manx language and customs which characterised the crofting way of life. We return via Castletown with its wonderfully preserved Castle Rushen.
• Half day tour including Tynwald (seat of the Manx Parliament) and Peel (said to be the best example of a typical Manx town). We then return to Douglas for an afternoon at leisure.
• Full day north island tour incorporating Ramsay and a visit to Laxey (home of the famous Lady Isobella – the world’s largest working waterwheel). Here we board the Manx Electric Railway for a ride to the summit of Snaefell – where at 2036 ft above sea level, on a clear day you can see England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales!

Saturday 29th June
Departing our hotel after breakfast, we utilise an early morning ferry crossing back to the mainland, so home to Newark for approximately teatime.
