South West Cornwall; Coast & Country

6 DAYS FROM £449

The county of Cornwall offers enchanting scenery, breathtaking views, golden sandy beaches and quaint-stone built harbours and villages. The unspoilt resort of St Agnes is a former tin mining and fishing village set in the heart of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dominated by St Agnes Beacon, the village boasts many cafés, restaurants, craft shops and galleries and is particularly well known for its ‘stippy stappy’ sea captains’ cottages.

Highly praised by our clients for several years, our base in St Agnes is once again the very comfortable, family run ROSEMUNDY HOUSE HOTEL, an elegant Queen Anne Residence set in over four acres of secluded gardens and woodlands. The nearest beach at beautiful Trevaunance Cove is less than a mile away and the quaint centre of St Agnes village just a short walk along the main street. Tastefully extended, the Rosemundy has several lounges, a bar and restaurant. Naturally all of the en suite bedrooms feature tv and hospitality tray. Unfortunately, there is no lift but all bedrooms are situated on the 1st or 2nd floor.

Please note – restricted drop off points and the hilly nature of Cornwall make this holiday unsuitable for the less mobile. Some walking will be required to fully enjoy all the excursions on offer.

Departing Newark early morning, we principally utilise the motorway system to take us southwards into Devon. Then skirting Dartmoor, we proceed into Cornwall via Bodmin and the coast at St Agnes.

Friday 16th – Monday 19th October
Scheduled excursions during our stay will include the following:
• Full day tour including a visit to St Ives with its fishing harbour and magnificent beaches which are backed by a glorious maze of narrow streets and alleyways (please note – some walking is required from the coach drop off point)
• Full day tour incorporating a visit to the enchanting Lost Gardens of Heligan which, as the name suggests, were ‘rediscovered’ almost 30 years ago. A garden for all seasons, Heligan is considered one of the most romantic in the UK, appreciated as much for its beauty and mystery as for the ground breaking restoration project which brought it back to life. Time permitting we will visit the lovely fishing resort of Mevagissey with its cafés, galleries and shops which cluster around the harbour walls and line the pretty streets (please note - some walking is required from the coach drop off point)
• Full day tour including a visit to the National Seal Sanctuary. Located on the picturesque Helford Estuary, the sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates grey seals from around the Cornish Coastline and our guided tour will give an insight into how the animals are rescued and cared for
• Full day visit to Truro, the UK’s most southerly city where the impressive cathedral and gothic towers dominate the skyline. In its shadow, a warren of compact streets are home to an impressive array of independent traders, delicatessens, boutiques and cafés.

Tuesday 20th October
Departing St Ives after breakfast, we retrace our steps, so home to Newark for approximately teatime.
